These pieces are some of my favourites, and are a sampling of what I do. I work in acrylics, with some mixed media components for certain pieces. Each one calls out to an emotion, a feeling, an experience, and is a revelation of the contrast between light and dark, and our inner and outer lives. Ultimately, while they're flowers, they're rooted in mental health -- stemming from my own breakdown and subsequent healing, my anxiety and journey through life as a flawed human.

It's A Good Life

Painted live in front of JEMS Boutique in summer 2022, this large piece is a shoutout to all of the amazing, surprising, incredible things that life can bring when your heart is open to them.

Relief

This piece is about overcoming body-holding moments of anxiety, panic, fear and a sense of lack. It's about the moment you push through it and discover you're human: you're loose and wild and free.

My Favourite Colour Is You

Loose, free-flowing florals juxtapose the deep, dark, multi-layered background: a recognition and celebration of the vibrance that light can create when it's coupled with the dark.

Waterfalls

Well, this one was just a fun experience. Mental health and well being needs infusions of fun, and this was one way I achieved it. Created with acrylic paint on black paper, and then hand-lettered digitally in ProCreate, this is the start of a new line I'm working on for 2023.

Growing Up

Completed on a circular canvas, growing up was completed on my thirty-seventh birthday and was a love letter to myself: I can do these hard things, and there's beautiful hope in the years to come. Deep in the winter months, I was struggling to live, let alone paint, but this piece brought me through and shines a bright light of hope.

Still In Love With You

There's a familiar warmth to this one, that accompanies exciting new brush strokes and movements. It's like an old love that's always felt fresh, yet comfortable. It exists in the moment of self-doubt, where the repetition can create anxious feelings, but the slightest shift can refocus the good in life.

How You Spend Your Time

While different in colour palette, this piece calls on my thick, loose brush strokes and is hand lettered with acrylic paint to call out a special reminder for myself. This came as I was resigning from my day job (teaching elementary school: a safe job with a pension and benefits and a lot of money) to spend my time in the way I wanted to spend my life, instead.
